Texas drivers are likely familiar with the law that allows right turns at red lights, but many are unfamiliar with the ability to take left turns at red lights.

According to the Texas Transportation Code, drivers are allowed to turn left at red lights when two one-way streets intersect.

McKinney has many one-way streets, most of which are located around The Square.

Drivers are encouraged to follow this rule when it is safe to do so, said Carla Marion, McKinney Police Department public information officer. However, drivers cannot be fined for not turning left on red when permissible.
